There’s a lot to be said for actresses’ nudity being overshadowed by bigger stars in the same features, and the scene with Karla Crome naked in Carnival Row is no exception. On the contrary, it’s a perfect example. For those who aren’t aware, Carnival Row hosted the second of only two times that the magnetic Cara Delevingne has appeared naked on screen and, incidentally, the only time that the view was good, taking out her brief, dark nude debut in Tulip Fever.
To Amazon’s credit, they did wait until the third episode to air the first of Cara’s nude scenes in the show, whereas Karla Crome’s nudity was in the pilot episode, but it didn’t seem to steal the show in the way that intuition would presume due to Prime Video following the binge-friendly release schedule of putting every single episode of the season out on the same day – in this case, August 30, 2019. Maeve Dermody’s nude scene was in the same episode and was even the very first nude scene of the entire show, but it was met with the same fate. Even Tamzin Merchant’s pair of nude scenes toward the end of the season slipped under many fappers’ radars, but more on all of that down the line.
We see Karla Crome nude in Carnival Row when her character Tourmaline Larou is having sex with a client in the brother where she works. I appreciate this sounds like blatant sexposition à la Game of Thrones, but the scene was actually critical to the story in its entirety (no further spoilers, though). I was initially struggling over whether to put this scene down as a nude debut for the British actress based on a partial flash of ass preceding it in the infamous Hit & Miss with Chloë Sevigny, but after a check with The Topless Review’s British Nudity Database, I found that she’d flashed a tit once before on BBC’s Murder, which I understand is a spin-off of The Teletubbies.
