I certainly was expecting to see Emma Corrin naked when I watched Lady Chatterley’s Lover. How could I not be? People have been talking about gawking at Emma Corrin nude for the first time in her career ever since Netflix’s adaptation of the 1928 cuck classic by this perfectly normal and sane-looking gentleman came out last month.
What I definitely did not expect was the earth-shattering quantity of Emma Corrin nude scenes that we ended up getting. I genuinely thought there would just be one nude scene from Emma and then one other, which would be the infamous Jack O’Connell nude scene that ended up getting bizarrely mixed reception. That said, Jack O’Connell naked on screen is as reliably consistent as the tides, so I’m not really sure what all of the furore was about from either camp. Anyway, I thought that very important part of the movie needed to be addressed, and now it is, so I’m done linking gay-themed sites. Or am I?
Back to the 6 million Emma Corrin nude scenes in Lady Chatterley’s Lover, the situation is so deliciously absurd, that the Daily Mail even erroneously reported that the Netflix film was going to be X-rated. I guess I can’t blame them – after all, that article is from before the film’s release – but it did make me think about Netflix’s completely chaotic relationship with nudity. The orthodoxy was always that Netflix is lean on nude scenes, and when they appear every now and then, they are not especially gratuitous. It’s safe to say that Lady Chatterley’s Lover bucked that trend in a dramatic way, although there is also something to be said for the fact that as networks like HBO and Starz and Hollywood as a whole have been shying away from nude scenes since #MeToo gained traction, Netflix has been moving in the opposite direction with on-screen nudity.
So there I was, going into the movie excited to see Emma Corrin topless (once), and instead, I get a whole lot of graphic and gratuitous full frontal nudity. It is worth noting – and this is something that I’ve noticed time and time again with such delicious offerings – that Lady Chatterley’s Lover gets the fabled F-Rated tag for its director, Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre. And not only that, but said female director is French, which I surely needn’t explain further. And what’s even more, Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre has herself done nude scenes, such as in 2011’s Demain?, which coincidentally also revolves around the First World War. Suffice it to say, all of the ingredients for gratuitous shots of naked actresses were in place.
So go ahead and enjoy Emma Corrin sex scenes until your battered dong just can’t take any more. You can almost forget that there’s a movie between all of the nudity, but who’s complaining? Certainly not Emma. In interviews, she has described her nude debut as “so freeing” and “the most exhilarating experience of [her] life”… and yet, that wince she does in The Hook’s video interview when they begin talking about her nude scenes combined with her body language throughout that bit – the vagus nerve massaging, the tightly crossed arms – tells a slightly different story. But wait. The nudity wasn’t that embarassing, was it? She wasn’t that exposed, was she? Perhaps, but then there’s…

I don’t know whether this was intentional or accidental in the same way that the three-frame shot of her nipple piercing is toward the end of the movie, but if it is “””””unintentional”””””, I can tell you with certainty that the editor noticed it and did nothing about it. The pierced nipples appear under a flurry of blanket in the middle of a shot where the focus is on Lady Chatterley’s face. The bush-and-labia shot – and yes, inner labia are included just like in one of the greatest nude scenes ever by the amazing Lucy Aarden – was right at the end of a scene with the camera’s focus on nothing else, even if it did only last for three frames.
